Winchester is beautiful and unique with two rapidly growing universities and several major developments on the horizon, new opportunities are presented to position and promote the city as a centre for culture, creativity and commerce in the South of England.
A wide range of marketing initiatives are used to promote Winchester as a destination as well as to promote the BID’s services such as Winchester Business Centre, car parking app ParkWinchester and our events. This includes a blend of radio, press, digital, outdoor and social advertising. The BID also works closely with Visit Winchester and pays for membership to a Destination Management Partnership, which works with a PR agency to promote Winchester as a destination to the rest of the UK and further afield. The BID is also active on social media and you can follow us and engage with us on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter.
We like to connect with local businesses face-to-face, but we also use a range of media to keep BID members and associated parties as well as the press up to date with our activities. We send a fortnightly enews to our BID members and regular consumer enews to local residents and visitors to Winchester. To subscribe and keep updated on the latest BID projects, services and events, please enter your details in the sign up form on our homepage or contact: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Winchester Independents Advisory Group was established in 2018 to help the BID to develop a new programme of campaigns and projects to support independent businesses in the city. The group has Terms of Reference and is made up of independent business owners who advise the BID on how best to optimise a ring fenced annual fund to support the city’s independent business community. Themes include events, marketing and digital projects, among others.
Winchester BID organises a range of events, all of which contribute to the local economy and add to the diverse mix of cultural activities available in the city. Two of our most popular annual events include Winchester Fashion Week in April and the Winchester Christmas Lights Switch On Ceremony in November.
Festivals in Winchester
As well as delivering our own events, the BID also chairs the Festivals in Winchester group and supports other events in the city with an annual sponsorship budget which is used to support local festivals, events and activities. We assess the economic impact of each event including footfall, foot-flow, city spend and how they engage with and benefit BID member businesses. Winchester BID endeavours to support as many city-based events as possible to ensure an exciting and diverse offer. If you are an event organiser and would like to apply for sponsorship, please download the sponsorship application form.
We have taken a leading role in delivering a high-profile campaign for Christmas with partner organisations in the city. In addition to Winchester BID’s events and marketing promotions, we also run other seasonal activities, which are designed to encourage footfall, foot-flow and spend and also provide fun activities for the local community and visitors to the city. Some of these include Spring in Winchester in April, Independents Month in July and Spooky Winchester in October.
Winchester Business Excellence Awards
The BID has been a lead partner and sponsor of the Winchester Business Excellence Awards for nearly a decade. We work with Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and the Hampshire Chronicle to deliver these awards which recognise the achievements of local businesses and reward them for their commitment to excellence.
Best Bar None Awards
Best Bar None is a national bench-marking scheme aimed at promoting safety, responsible management and operation of alcohol-licensed premises. The BID coordinates the Winchester Best Bar None Awards which celebrate the evening economy and recognise businesses which fulfil strict criteria to become Best Bar None accredited venues.
